SGA has an exciting opportunity for a junior architectural designer to be part of our multifamily building design group in Bethesda, MD!

Prerequisites for Consideration:

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States as either a citizen of the US, non-citizen national, lawful permanent resident, or a resident alien otherwise authorized to work in the US. Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Receive project requests and draft designs.

  • Create schematic drawings using Revit and/or AutoCAD.

  • Work collaboratively with team members and stakeholders to ensure accuracy of early design work.

  • Progress schematic drawings into design-development under the mentorship of a Senior Designer or Architect.

  • Revisit drawings make adjustments to designs as needed.

  • Research and incorporate appropriate finishes, furniture, fixtures, and equipment.

  • Incorporate applicable codes, safety standards and governmental regulations into design work.

  • Liaise with various professionals and team members to coordinate project details.

  • Perform periodic site visits as needed.

What We’re Looking for in You:

You are a recent graduate of an accredited architecture program with 0-3 years of professional experience, are confident in your AutoCAD and Revit capabilities, and have a working knowledge of SketchUp, Photoshop, and likely other design industry software tools. You can convey design ideas effectively by hand sketching, and you have the ability to interpret other people’s sketches and design ideas in order to create scaled drawings in plan, elevation, section, detail, and three-dimensional formats using Revit and AutoCAD. You have at least a basic understanding of building systems and spatial relationships. You are an effective verbal communicator who doesn’t shy away from engaging with your colleagues, the public, or the various government officials that you will likely deal with from time-to-time. You have a demonstrated ability to convey your thoughts through writing, using proper grammar and correct spelling. Additionally, your written communications by email or otherwise are concise, respectful, and professional in their content and tone. You are detail oriented, and don’t forget to proof-read a document or review a drawing before sending it out. You like working with a team to achieve a goal. You are eager to hone your skills as a junior designer, to gain more responsibility and capability, ultimately with a goal of pursuing licensure as part of your career trajectory.
